Alex Meeske
Associate Professor

Alex is a PI In the UW Department of Microbiology. Until 2021, he was a lifelong East-coaster but now has fully embraced PNW culture. Alex received his undergraduate degree from UCONN, then did his Ph.D. with David Rudner at Harvard Medical School. There he developed an interest in bacterial cells and the complex machinery within them. As a postdoctoral fellow with Luciano Marraffini at the Rockefeller University, Alex investigated the mechanisms of CRISPR-Cas13 immunity in Listeria. In 2021 he joined the faculty of UW Microbiology, a thriving community of researchers dedicated to understanding the roles of bacteria in the biosphere. Since then, the lab has made many advances in our understanding of diverse anti-viral defense mechanisms, with more to come!
