Alex Meeske
Assistant Professor
Alex is a new PI In the UW Department of Microbiology. Until now, he's been a lifelong East-coaster. He is desperately trying to assimilate into the Seattle culture by driving a Subaru and regularly hiking. Alex received his undergraduate degree from UCONN, and later did his Ph.D. with David Rudner at Harvard Medical School. There he developed an interest in bacterial cells and the complex machinery within them. As a postdoctoral fellow with Luciano Marraffini at the Rockefeller University, Alex enjoyed using phage to kill the very bacteria he once felt so fondly about. In 2021 he joined the faculty of UW Microbiology, a thriving community of people dedicated to understanding the roles of bacteria in the biosphere.
